The Right Hand of God

You will find very quickly if you will study the Word of God (and you should), that the Right Hand signifies the place of Authority and Power. It is NOT a physical place. The Word of God backs this up over and over. Many times in the Psalms, David made statements such as "Thy right hand" has saved me, "Thy right hand hath holden me up", "Thou that savest by thy right hand", "Thy right hand hath gotten the victory.  Over and over you find that the right hand signifies the POWER and the AUTHORITY of God.  Jesus himself even made known that the RIGHT HAND was the place of authority and power.

Turn to Psalm 139 beginning at verse 7. David emphasizes what I just covered on the last page concerning God being a Spirit. "Where can I go from thy spirit, he asks, or whither shall I flee from thy presence?" David says there is NO place to get away from God, even if he chose to go to Hell. Now verse 10 is interesting. He says EVEN THERE... shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me. You mean the right hand of God is literal? Not hardly. Look now at Mark 14:62.

Mark 14:62 "And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven."

Matthew 26:64 "Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven."

Mark 16:19 (If you are using an NIV bible, they tell you that this should not be included in the Word of God) "So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God." (You mean literally ON His right hand?)

Luke 22:69 "Hereafter shall the Son of man sit on the right hand of the power of God."

Notice that in each instance, you see the phrases 'sitting on the right hand', or 'sat on the right hand' or 'sat on the right hand'. The phrase 'sat down' actually signifies that the sacrificial work of Christ is not continuing, but is complete.  Hebrews 1:3 states when Jesus had BY HIMSELF purged our sins, He 'sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high'. Now in Hebrews 10:11-13: "And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool"

We can see from the passages above that a physical interpretation of the right hand of God is incorrect. 

 Let's look also at some of the other passages in which the "right hand" is used.

 In Psalm 16:8, David wrote, "I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved." So by this, I ask you, was God always bodily present at the right side (or right hand of David). Of course not, BUT, in understanding the right hand for what it is .... THE PLACE OF POWER and AUTHORITY .... we see that God was a great strength for David. Psalm 109:31 states that the LORD "shall stand at the right hand of the poor." Does He physically station Himself next to poor people all the time? The LORD declared in Isaiah 48:13, "My right hand hath spanned the heavens," and in Isaiah 62:8 the LORD swore by His right hand. Did God reach out a giant hand and literally cover the sky, or did God put His left hand on His right hand and swear by it?

1 Peter 3:22 further demonstrates that "right hand" means Jesus has all power and authority: "Who is gone to heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him."

Contrast the scriptures just given with a few that state "RIGHT SIDE":

Right side or Right hand?

You will NEVER find that Jesus is referred to as sitting on the RIGHT SIDE of the Father. He is always mentioned as being on the RIGHT HAND.  This means quite literally that he is in the place of Authority and Power, NOT that he is sitting right beside God (if you believe it this way, show me the scriptures in which one looks into heaven and sees Jesus, God and the Holy Ghost sitting upon their thrones...just one scripture where you see this will suffice for me).

SO HOW ABOUT A TRINITY?

Surely, if a trinity exists, or if there is a plurality of persons of God (3 persons), we could see this when we look into the heavens and get a glimpse of the throne room. Surely, we would see the Father and the Son and the Holy Ghost sitting upon their respective thrones, wouldn't we? That certainly seems like a fair statement to make considering that God has given us glimpses into the THRONE ROOM in several places in the bible.

Revelation 4:1  Where are we? What are we seeing here? Revelation 4:1 reads "After this I looked, and, behold, a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a trumpet talking with me; which said, Come up hither, and I will shew thee things which must be hereafter. And immediately I was in the spirit: and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne. And he that sat was to look upon like a jasper and a sardine stone: and there was a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald. And round about the throne were four and twenty seats: and upon the seats I saw four and twenty elders sitting, clothed in white raiment; and they had on their heads crowns of gold. "  

Whether you believe this is speaking of a rapture, or otherwise, is irrelevant at this point. We are concerned with the Throne Room. Maybe my education has failed me with time, but I seem to remember way back in Kindergarten that "A" when referring to anything, meant ONE, SINGULAR. Is that what you understand? Read that passage again, does your bible state 'A' door, 'A' trumpet, 'A' THRONE, 'A' rainbow?

How many is 'A'? Right.....it is ONE. JUST ONE.

Notice that in verse 2 ... ONE SAT ON THE THRONE.

ONE (again singular)

Sat on

THE (again another term to identify that there is ONLY ONE)

Throne.

I ask you, are we in the "throne room" of God? Sure we are and a continued reading will show that we are. If we are in the throne room of God,  WHERE are the other two thrones?  Well, maybe, you say, John was only seeing a little of the picture. Ok....let's look somewhere else.

Let's look in Ezekiel Chapter 1.

Ezekiel 1

We find some very amazing creatures in this passage. Ezekiel spent quite some time describing these creatures and their actions until we get to verse 26.

Ezekiel 1:26 to Ezekiel 2:2 "And above the firmament that was over their heads was the likeness of a throne, as the appearance of a sapphire stone: and upon the likeness of the throne was the likeness as the appearance of a man above upon it. And I saw as the colour of amber, as the appearance of fire round about within it, from the appearance of his loins even upward, and from the appearance of his loins even downward, I saw as it were the appearance of fire, and it had brightness round about. As the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud in the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness round about. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD. And when I saw it, I fell upon my face, and I heard a voice of one that spake. And he said unto me, Son of man, stand upon thy feet, and I will speak unto thee. And the spirit entered into me when he spake unto me, and set me upon my feet, that I heard him that spake unto me."

WHAT IS IT THAT EZEKIEL SAW? He saw the same thing John saw! Remember what you just read in Revelation? A Throne, A man, A RAINBOW (what is the bow that is in the cloud in the day of rain?), and he was spoken to by the Spirit of God. Again, are we in the throne room? Yes we are. Where are the other two thrones in this picture?

Isaiah saw the same thing in Isaiah chapter 6.

Isaiah 6:1 "In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple".

Daniel saw One like the Ancient of Days on a throne in Daniel 7.

The fact is: There are never three supreme thrones mentioned anywhere in the Word of God upon which God, Jesus, and the Holy Ghost sit.  We see a glimpse into heaven in several places of scripture and we see the Lord upon his throne.
