Hebrews 1:1-3
(1)
God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the
fathers by the prophets,
(2)
Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed
heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;
(3)
Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his
person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by
himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on
high;..."
We read beginning in
verse 2: The SON (Jesus) was appointed heir
of all things, the SON made the worlds and then in 3 that the Son is the
brightness of the Glory of God (read also
John 1:14)
and that the Son is what...? THE EXPRESS IMAGE of 'his person'. JESUS is
the EXPRESS IMAGE of whose person? Of the "person" of God! Well this
certainly explains
Colossians 2:9 ... Jesus
is the FULNESS of the Godhead BODILY,
Colossians
1:19 ... In Jesus, all the fulness dwells.
This also explains
countless other scriptures ... "I and my Father are One", "When you've
seen me, you've seen the Father", "I am in the Father, and he in me...",
etc.
The express image of
his person.
So, by the very Word of God, does God have a body? (You know the teaching
that is out there...the part about "God in 3 persons"?)
Well, this
scripture alone absolutely contradicts that. This passage says it is
God
in 1 person and that the 1 person is Jesus Christ. You say, wait,
preacher, you mean to tell me that Jesus Christ is the PERSON of God? YES.
That is absolutely what the Word of God states and supports throughout
all it's pages.
Allow me to sidetrack for a moment
on the subject of a "trinity" or a plurality of "persons".
Concerning
"trinity" let me make a few comments. Those who hold the doctrine of 3
'persons' of God all have a common
creed.
Have you ever read your own church's creed? If your church holds
the view of a trinity, It boldly states "GOD IN THREE PERSONS", in nearly
every instance. MOST of them (the creeds) also go on to state that these
"3 Persons" are CO-EQUAL, CO-POWERFUL, and CO-ETERNAL (sometimes
CO-EXISTENT).
Is that what you believe?
CO-EQUAL and CO-POWERFUL? Have you ever really read the Word
of God to see if this is true?
Look at
Matthew 28:18
and then tell me that you believe God, Jesus and the Holy Ghost are CO
POWERFUL and CO EQUAL!
Matthew 28:18
states:
"And Jesus came and spake unto
them, saying, ALL power is given unto me in heaven
and in earth."
Wait
a minute. He said what? ALL POWER is given unto me.
ALL?
How much is ALL? Is it not EVERYTHING? Of course it is.
Well, now that takes away the CO-EQUAL doesn't it? It certainly REMOVES
the CO-POWERFUL part. If Jesus has ALL power, how much power is left
for anyone else? NONE. If I have ALL the cookies and I eat ALL the
cookies, then how many do YOU get? NONE.
Well,
what is it then? How do you explain it? THERE IS ONLY ONE WAY YOU CAN
EXPLAIN IT.
JESUS
is the ONE PERSON of GOD and IN HIM, ALL THE FULNESS
OF THE GODHEAD DWELLS ...
Let's
move back to
Hebrews 1.
As we finish
verse 3 we see that Jesus
BY HIMSELF purged
our sins and "sat down" on the right hand of the Majesty on high. Now
we've already covered the right hand. Let's read further.
Verse 4: Jesus
has a much better name, unquestionably! In
verse 5 we see something
that is easy to understand: Jesus is the "only begotten" son of God (not
the ONLY son see
Genesis
6:2-4, Job 1:6, Job 2:1, Job 38:7, John 1:12, Romans 8:14-19, Philippians
2:15, and
1 John 3:1-2).
He is the ONLY BEGOTTEN Son: the only one ever "born of flesh".
Verse 6 begins to get very interesting:
"And
again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And
let all the angels of God worship him."
Now, I thought God was a
jealous God. Read
Isaiah 42:8:
"I am the
LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my
praise to graven images". and
Isaiah 48:11:
"For mine own sake, even
for mine own sake, will I do it: for how should my name be polluted? and I
will not give my glory unto another".
Yet here in
Hebrews 1:6, we see God saying
"LET ALL THE
ANGELS WORSHIP HIM (Jesus)" . Now look at
verse 8.
Let's establish something. Who is speaking? If you continue from
Hebrews 1:6 you see that it is GOD. Then in
verse 8, God says what? " THY THRONE O GOD IS
FOREVER AND EVER" He is speaking to whom? TO THE SON !!!
THY THRONE?
May I ask you this? Who sits upon a throne? Right. A KING sits upon a
throne. Who is Jesus?
Revelation 19 tells us
He is the KING OF KINGS. We see the same thing in
1
Timothy 6:13-19. Jesus is the KING of GLORY. (Match this with
Psalm 24:7-10.
Let's Continue our
thought from
Hebrews 1 concerning the Express Image of
God's Person. Turn to
John 14:6-9.
Verse 7
states: (Jesus speaking of the Father)
"...and from henceforth ye know
him, and have seen him.".
Now, I've heard some pretty ridiculous things concerning that statement.
One lady told me that this statement meant that Jesus 'looked so much like
his Father, they could have been twins' and because they were 'identical
in appearance' Jesus made this statement.
It is almost
comical to hear these types of things. THERE IS NO SUCH THINKING LIKE
THIS SUPPORTED ANYWHERE IN THE WORD OF GOD.
"...and
from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him."
Philip was confused at the
statement and we read:
"Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father,
and it sufficeth us". In other words, he was saying : Jesus, you've been
talking about the Father all this time now and you still have never shown
him to us. Just show us the Father and we'll be satisfied. The reply from
Jesus was astonishing.
John
14:9
"Jesus saith unto him, Have I been
so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that
hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the
Father?"
Allow me to
paraphrase: Jesus said "PHILIP.....YOU MEAN
TO TELL ME THAT I'VE BEEN WITH YOU ALL THIS TIME AND YOU DON'T KNOW ME?
WHEN YOU'VE SEEN ME, YOU'VE SEEN THE FATHER! And then you have the
audacity to say "Show us the Father"!?."
Look now at
1 Timothy 3:16. This should grab your
attention if nothing else has so far.
1 Timothy 3:16
"And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was
manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached
unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory."
WHO did all
these things? Look at that again. GOD
was manifest in the flesh. God was justified in the Spirit,
God was seen of
angels.....GOD WAS PREACHED UNTO THE WORLD ... WHO was? GOD was.
God was believed on in
the world and GOD RECEIVED UP INTO GLORY. GOD was received up into Glory? YES.....GOD WAS.
Read it again!
Now look at
Romans 1. Romans 1:18 The wrath of God is revealed
why? God is angry for what reason? BECAUSE THEY HOLD THE TRUTH OF GOD IN
UNRIGHTEOUSNESS.......BUT, Paul didn't stop at simply that. He went on to
further explain....
BECAUSE THAT WHICH MAY BE KNOWN
OF GOD IS MANIFEST IN THEM..... Read through now to
verse 20.
"For the invisible things
of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood
by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that
they are without excuse:...
"Because
that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God..."
(verse
21)
Well, when did 'they' know God?
Who is the "they", and WHEN did they know GOD?
1 Corinthians 2:8
"Which
none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would
not have crucified the Lord of glory."
They knew GOD when HE
walked the face of this earth!
Let's
